Week 9 Story: Dog Vs. Cat

It is no secret that cats and dogs have long been enemies, but many people do not know the reason behind that. Some may think this is a made up, but there is a time to trace back when dog and cat became foes.  Once upon a time, a couple lived happily ever after with their two pets: a cat named Trixy, and a dog named Spike. The two pets were the best of friends. The couple had a magic ring, that they did not know held special powers. As long as the held the ring, it would bring them good fortune. Since they didn't know this though, they pawned the magic ring. Soon enough, the couple lost all of their fortune and became very poor. Trixy and Spike were very worried about their owners, and hated to see them suffer. So, like any great pets, they came up with a plan to solve their problem. Spike had a brilliant idea to retrieve the magic ring, and bring it back to his owners. Spike's plan was to trick the new couple that bought the ring into letting the cute, sweet pets into their ...

Reading B: The Night on the Battlefield

The Night on the Battlefield A merchant was wandering down the road. There was a huge storm so he decided to stay at an inn on the side of the road. He just wanted to get some drinks and a place to stay but the lodging people opposed. But, a man took pity and let him in. They didn't have drinks or a real room, but they let him stay in a makeshift room. The merchant couldn't sleep because he was so hungry and thirsty. Next door, he saw an inn full of soldiers who were drinking and eating, and talking about campaigns he had never heard of. After a time they began calling to each other: “The general is coming!” Then, the merchant saw them run out to get him with paper lanterns and a big procession. The general came to the inn and the guards followed and waited for his commands. The inn-keeper served food and drinks to the general. When he finished the officers told him to rest after his long journey. A young officer named Asti came and watched over the general for the rest of the ...

Reading A: Why Dog and Cat are Enemies

A couple held a special lucky gold ring, and whoever had it would always have enough money. But, they didn't know so they sold the ring, and became very poor. They had a dog and cat who were also poor and starving, and wanted to help their owners. The dog suggested getting the ring back. The dog wanted the cat to catch a mouse to retrieve the ring.  The cat liked the idea, and caught a mouse to do the deed. The mouse, dog and cat went on a journey to fetch the ring, and bring it back to the pet's owners. The cat could climb over objects that the dog had to run around, so the cat beat the dog home. The cat was praised for retrieving the ring. The dog was beat and scolded for not getting the ring, and the cat did not step in to say the dog helped. The dog was so mad that the cat did not tell the owners that it was his idea, and that he did a majority of the work getting the ring back. The dog tried to chase the cat, and the two have been enemies ever since.  The beginning of the...

Famous Last Words- Halfway Done!

Me trying not to get stressed the rest of the semester.    This week, we didn’t have readings, so I will base this off of last week. I think my reading went very well. I told myself I was going to work ahead so I wouldn’t be stressed this weekend, giving myself time to really pick my readings with a purpose, and take good notes. I did get a chance to read both sections, so I had more to write my own story off of.  As a journalism major, I feel like all I do is write! A lot of it jumbles in my head, but this week I know I wrote a story about a gorilla with powers, and I was also working on my capstone project outside of this class. I read two stories on the gorilla, and his adventures. I based my story mostly off of the second one, where God wanted to punish him because of his behavior, but God ended up realizing he really needed him there after all. My capstone project is on gender bias in the media. Obviously journalism and the media is something that I will end up in af...

Week 8 Progress

I am happy with my progress this far, but after looking at the progress chart, it is clear that I need to do some extra credit these next few weeks! I was on a good weekly routine, but as my classes have gotten more crazy, I have dropped the ball a little bit. I am glad I am getting everything done early this week, so I can get some extra credit done this week. I have really enjoyed the writing part of this class. As a journalism major, I have really enjoyed writing and creating my own stories. I think my blog is going pretty well, and I have a lot of content on it now. For the second half of the semester, I want to try to get back into a good schedule, and start working ahead. I really want to avoid missing anymore assignments, so i don't fall behind again.  How I DON'T want to be the rest of the semester!

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

I think the comments in feedback in this class are really helpful. It is great for me to get the comments that I can think about for my next story, or work on the revisions in those stories. I think the comments that are most helpful are the ones with suggestions to help either that story, or the next story. I have been trying to give constructive criticism, as well as point out the things I really like. This way, it may inspire some revisions, as well as keep the things that work really well, and look really great. It has been really cool to get to know the class in a different way, since we don't meet in person. But, reading everybody's writing and comments are a really cool way to get to know people in a different way.  I think this meme perfectly expresses how I feel in this class. It is easy for me to take criticism, because everybody is so helpful, and you can tell that everybody cares about each other's stories. ( cheezburger )

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Overall, the reading and writing projects are going really well. I like the clean layout of my blog, and the way it is really easy to navigate through my posts. I have really enjoyed writing my stories for my story posts. It has been fun to read the different stories during the week, and then go back and make them my own through my writing. It has also been great for me to be able to go back and edit my story and make changes and revisions. My favorite reading so far was the reading based on Adam and Eve. The reading notes are rally helpful when I am writing my own stories, especially when I am making big changes to the characters or plots. I try to make the reading notes into my own words, and write about the specific things I want to write in my story. It is easier to go back to read the notes in my own words, to be able to write my own stories.  Me when I'm trying to read stories each week.
